Good For Now And Forever!

Tuesday, August 21, 2018

I was asked yesterday, “How are you doing?”  I’m asked that a lot.  I responded, “Good for now!”   As I walked away, I thought that I should have said, “Good for now!  And, I will be forever!”

It was appropriate to respond as I did, given the fact that I am good.  The lymphoma in several of my lymph nodes continues to be somewhat stable.  “Stable” is a good thing!

My blood test numbers that indicate kidney function are much improved.  I’m drinking water like a madman, and it seems to be working.  I feel like a water balloon!  I also just finished #10 of 10 rounds of radiation for my salivary glands in both of my cheeks.  A biopsy showed lymphoma in both of them.  After looking like a chipmunk with acorns in my cheeks, they are back to normal size.   Another blessing is that the “epic itching” challenge is much improved.

We did have a bit of excitement last week.  The port in my chest, with a direct line to my heart, became infected. That is not the place you want infection!  However, my doctor was able to take the port out, clean out the area, and now it’s healing nicely.  We’ll wait on putting in another one for now.

I’ll see my doctor on May 13th, but for now I’m receiving no treatment.  We’re just trusting Jesus and thankful for each day that God gives us!  At some point, if my kidneys can handle it, I may do some chemo to address the lymphoma that is still present in some of my lymph nodes.  But then again, I may not need it if I remain “stable.” I’ll have another PET scan in a few weeks.   I’ll keep you posted!

I read this passage this morning in 1 Peter 5, and found it very comforting!

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because,

‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble’.  Humble yourselves, therefore,

under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up at due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him

because he cares for you.”   - 1 Peter 5b – 7

Sometimes we are confused about the meaning of “humble.”  It simply means, “to know our place.”  It means we don’t put ourselves down or puff ourselves up.  We don’t need to!  We are comfortable with the circumstances in our life because we know who we are and that God is in charge!  We can relax!  Through prayer, we can cast our anxiety on God.  Why?   Because he cares for us!

Back to my response to my friend’s question, “How are you doing?”  My answer?  “Good for now, and forever!”  I’m thankful for my health condition that seems to be stable, if not improving.   I am good for now, but nothing will come my way that will jeopardize God’s good plans for my life!   My “now” is truly blessed!  And, my “forever” is blessed as well!

It’s great to be able to live our lives with complete confidence in the goodness of God!  I love that worship song that reminds us that God is a good, good father –that’s who he is!  And, that we’re loved by him, that’s who we are!  I hope you’re “good for now” and “forever!”  This is the meaning of “eternal life!”

Trusting in God’s Promises,
